Welcome to the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) - your link to information about transportation throughout Sonoma County. The SCTA acts as the countywide planning and programming agency for transportation related issues: securing funds, project oversight and long term planning.
The Sonoma County Transportation Authority, SCTA, was formed as a result of legislation passed in 1990. The SCTA serves as the coordinating and advocacy agency for transportation funding for Sonoma County. The SCTA is governed by a twelve member Board of Directors. Nine of these members are chosen from the Councils of the nine incorporated cities or towns, and three are chosen from the County Board of Supervisors. The Authority holds public meetings on the second Monday (except holidays) of each month at the Sonoma County Planning Commission hearing room in Santa Rosa.
"As a collaborative agency of the cities and County of Sonoma, we work together to maintain and improve our transportation network. We do so by prioritizing, coordinating, and maximizing the funding available to us and providing comprehensive, county-wide planning. Our deliberations and decisions recognize the diverse needs within our county and the environmental and economic aspects of transportation planning."
In 2005 the ten local governments within Sonoma County set a mutual greenhouse gas target in partnership with the Climate Protection Campaign (CPC). The target is to reduce GHG emissions to 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2015, one of the most aggressive targets in the country. To help Sonoma County local governments reach this goal, CPC published the Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP), which recommends regional solutions to reduce emissions from buildings, transportation, the electrical grid, agriculture, forestry, and solid waste.
